MBBS in Nepal is becoming popular among international students for its growing infrastructure and medical education system. The studying pattern and syllabus are very similar in India and Nepal, and the course duration is also the same in both countries, which requires first four and a half years of theoretical studies and one additional year for internship and working experience. The Medical Council of India (MCI) also approves the institutions, syllabus, and other operations of medical institutes in Nepal, along with India. The government of Nepal has taken required actions for incorporating innovative technologies and modern teaching tools and methods for advancement in the medical learning.
Manipal Pokhara Medical College also called Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS) is one of the most esteemed, prominent, and recognised medical colleges in Nepal and India. It is situated in Pokhara and was established in 1994 with affiliation from Kathmandu University. WHO and NMC have approved Manipal Medical College for its high-quality medicine education. MCOMS is first private college for studying MBBS and medicine in Nepal.
Manipal College of Medical Sciences has MCI approval along with many other medical colleges in Nepal like Institute of Medicine (IOM), Tribhuvan University, B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Science, Nepal Medical College, Nepal Medical College and Teaching Hospital etc.
All the Nepali Universities have the same requirements for admission into MBS program. Only the candidates who fulfil all the requirements can enter the MBBS program in Nepal.
Academic- 10+2 or equivalent degree completed from a recognised council of board is compulsory. Major subjects should include Physics, Biology, Chemistry and English with minimum 50% marks scored.
Entrance examination- National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS degree from any medical college is compulsory. The aspiring candidate must acquire a qualifying NEET exam score for admission into the medical college. The IELTS exam score is also accepted for non-English speaking countries.
Age limit- The minimum age limit for appearing in NEET entrance exam is 17 years on the 31st December of the year of application.
Admission process- It involves the applicant to apply online via the portal on university/college official website which requires submission of 10th and 12th scorecards with a minimum of 50% scored in physics, chemistry, biology in 12th standard. Other essential documents are the birth certificate, nationality proof, passport sized photographs.
Duration: MBBS program is a 5.5 years curriculum which includes 4 and a half years of theoretical knowledge, classes and practical, and the another year is for rotating internship at the hospitals.
Language: The university at Nepal offers the English medium teaching programs, but the knowledge about the local language is helpful for communicating with the local patients especially during the internship.
The Universities provide healthcare facilities for international students along with health insurance, provided that the medical reports are submitted at the time of admission and are updated regularly. There are hostel facilities available for national and international students. Hostels provide all the required facilities, including hygienic and clean rooms, good quality food, laundry services, gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, etc., with Wi-Fi, water supply, and electric supply provided at all times for the convenience of students.
